Behind the Scenes
The production of "It Lives Inside" was announced through an exciting partnership between Neon and QC Entertainment on October 14, 2021. This groundbreaking project marked Bishal Dutta's directorial debut and featured an ensemble of exceptional talent, including Megan Suri, Neeru Bajwa, Vik Sahay, and Betty Gabriel. Principal photography commenced in Vancouver on the same day.
Dutta drew inspiration from his own upbringing in India before relocating to North America, infusing the story with elements of Indian demonic mythology and a touching personal narrative from his grandfather. Dutta shared, "As it developed, 'It Lives Inside' formed its own dual identity much like mine. On one hand, it is a love letter to the community and culture that raised me, while on the other, it is a visceral experience designed to instill the same raw terror in its viewers that my favorite horror films instilled in me."

Critics' Acclaim
On Rotten Tomatoes, "It Lives Inside" boasts an impressive 83% approval rating from 24 critics, with an average score of 6.8/10.
Meagan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting awarded the film a 3.5/5, remarking, "Dutta skillfully weaves a familiar teen horror framework into an intriguing exploration of underexplored mythology, amplified by themes of cultural divide and adolescence. However, Brian Tallerico of RogerEbert.com held a more critical stance, expressing, "While I applaud the effort to bring representation from an underrepresented culture to American horror, the execution falters in multiple directions, resulting in one of my most frustrating SXSW experiences. I genuinely wanted to embrace 'It Lives Inside,' but it continually pushed me away."
Derek Smith of Slant Magazine commented, "Had the film delivered genuine chills, it might have been easier to overlook its derivative plot, shallow character development, and heavy-handed symbolism of depression and alienation." Smith gave it a rating of 1.5/4 stars.
